New stage for Leeds Festival

Leeds Festival has added an unsigned stage to its bill, showcasing the best of northern talent.

Talent contest winners Dirtblonde, Ever Since The Lake Caught Fire, Little Ze and Letters And Colours will all be playing the stage (sponsored by TopShop), alongside more established acts like Polytechnic, Stoney, The Somatics and The Scaramanga Six. Nope, us neither. No, wait, we know Polytechnic. God we're southern.

This year's festival will also be going on for longer: there's a new license which means fun and games continue until 3am (presumably to stop people getting bored and breaking things). In fact, that's exactly what it is, as organiser Melvin Benn says: "The Fans' Forums seemed to suggest that people got up to mischief because everything stopped at eleven o'clock at night. I'm hoping that the later entertainment will (stop the rioting). I'm also hoping this Love Not Riots campaign will help as well. It's only a hundred people out of tens of thousands, the rest of the festival has such an amazing atmosphere."

Expect mini soundsystems, BMX displays and toilets that stay standing. Possibly.
