Someone in the Aloud harem asked who The Pipettes were yesterday. Which, really, is a fair question because up until a few months ago we thought they were a bunch of particularly enterprising science geeks. As we now know, this is wrong. The Pipettes bring all the joy of 50s and 60s girl groups to a modern crowd whose only knowledge of said music is reruns of Dirty Dancing. They love it. From the perfectly timed chat passing from girl to girl, to the choreographed dances and sweetly arch lyrics, it's a joyous retelling of one of the best times in music. As they say, "All you single people, I hope you find someone special this weekend because remember. It's not love but it's still a feeling." And you can't get more 60s than that. |
Well chuffed the Pipettes are doing so well. I saw them supporting Gold Blade upstairs at the Barfly around October 2004, and they were ace. I went with my boss at the time, who got all huffy about "Tie Me To The Kitchen Sink" and I had to argue it away as a post-feminist anthem. Rum.
Still, nice skirts, huh?
