Drug and travel warnings for V goers.

If you're heading up to the Staffordshire part of V this weekend, you might want to find a way of getting there that doesn't involve the roads.

Up to 35,000 cars are expected to try and get to Weston Park, so police are advising people to stay away from the area if they can: drivers from the west should leave the M54 at junction 3, and those from the east should leave the M6 at junction 12 and then use signed routes. Drop-off and collection points will be signposted from the A5 and shuttle buses will be running from Wolverhampton and Stafford rail stations.

Meanwhile, 500 police officers will be patrolling the Chelmsford leg of the festival, with sniffer dogs on the entrance to make sure nobody brings any drugs into the site. “The possession of cannabis or any other illegal substance is a criminal offence and those people found with such drugs will be liable to arrest, removal from the festival and prosecution," said Sgt Andy Sawyer of Essex Police.

“We just want everyone to have fun, enjoy the music and not to miss out on the entertainment because they have been arrested.” Don't start imagining crazed dogs though: these ones are passive detectors, so if a cuddly looking German Shepherd comes and sits next to you, it doesn't think you're lovely, it's grassing you up.
